Adam Chaprales, Republican candidate for State Representative in the Second Barnstable District, issued the following statement today regarding his opponent's flip-flop on the issue of the state gas tax:
"In 2013 my opponent, Democratic State Representative Brian Mannal, voted along with members of his party to increase the steep tax Massachusetts residents have to pay every time they fill up their car up with gas. What's more, he voted to raise that tax more and more each year with automatic future increases tied to the rate of inflation. Earlier today, on the Ed Lambert radio show on WXTK, Brian Mannal defended his vote. Yet, mere minutes later in the same show, Brian Mannal flip-flopped, saying he would likely vote to repeal the gas tax indexing at the ballot box this November. And, he referred to that as a 'hard vote'. Which Brian Mannal does our current representative think people are supposed to vote for on November 4 -- the one who actually voted for a costly tax hike, or the one who claims he'll vote against taxes in the future? Residents of the Second Barnstable District don't have time for this confusing double-speak. They need representation they can trust and rely on. By voting for me, people can trust they are electing someone who knows how harmful and burdensome new taxes are for working families, and who won't flip-flop in his opposition to tax hikes. I'll seek to hold the line on new taxes, and I'll always put the interests of taxpayers first when I vote on Beacon Hill. For me, that's always an easy decision."
